The Business Challenge
Stein Mart Corporation has approximately 90 locations in the Northeast region from which Flash Sales Data needs to be reported and analyzed. There was no reliable way to accomplish this collection and consolidation of data in a timely manner using the currently available systems.
Idea Integration suggested a Microsoft based Process Management and Business Intelligence solution utilizing BizTalk Server 2006 and SQL Server 2005 which would track store sales volume and the pricing of goods in real-time, facilitating the ability to make more timely and sound pricing decisions by management.
Microsoft BizTalk Server Solution
Idea Integration implemented a pilot project that proved the viability of the Microsoft Solution. BizTalk Server 2006 is used to receive data from all Stein Mart locations in Northeast Region.
- Flash Sales Data from DB2 Database housed at each store is pulled into BizTalk using DB2 Adapter in XML Format
- The received XML message is transformed into SQL Message type(XML format) using a BizTalk Map
- The final message is stored in Corporate SQL Server for additional reporting using SQL Reporting Services or other tools
- Business Activity Monitoring(BAM) in BizTalk is used to monitor Flash Sales Data by using Key Performance Indicators
Return on Investment
- Flash Sales Data is retrieved on a more timely basis
- Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) is used for sales performance monitoring
- Flash Sales Data is inserted into the Corporate SQL Server to provide Executive information in a timely manner
- SQL Reporting Services or other tools can be used for reporting
- Data validation errors are communicated to the BizTalk Server via the SMTP adapter
